Corridor Rt 4
This link is from the Cincinnati Enquier about rennovating the look of buisnesses around Rt. 4 north of Interstate 275 and below Hamilton. I guess my opinion is that this is just another perception people have and don't realize. "Hey lets beautify our huge barren asphalt roadways" instead of maybe focusing on other ways to solve the real problems of noise pollution, congestion, pedestrian saftey. The list goes on and on.
Here are the basic, without a study and just from my observations, suggestions. Vehicle lovers will not like this... Ok, shrink the lanes, take it from 7 lanes to at least 5. Add street side parking in a slant. Sharpen th edges of the road intersections corners because this will encourage drivers to take the corners slower, add sidewalks where there arent and enhance pedrestrain travel along the corridor. Make it less spread out looking, build the buildings closer to the front of the street and have street side parking or rear access parking. These are the immediate "beautification" concerns that need to be addressed. Make it a place where people will not only want to "drive" to but walk around and get to things easily. The reason why Rookwood, Easton, and other outdoor shopping areas are successful is that they offer a sense of community that is lost when you have random highway commercial buildings spread out all over the place. To solve congestion, Cincinnati needs to build a railway that will be able to transport people to places like Jungle Jim's along the corridor, or bus route if thier already isnt one and I think there is. Wide open roads encourage speeding and only add to the traffic. Narrow the main route and create a road network that will allow for easy detours if congestion occurs or accidents happen. Think Smart Cincinnati!!
